Alloy 718

W.Nr: 2.4668

UNS: N07718

Alloy 718 is a precipitation-hardened nickel-chromium-iron-molybdenum alloy. The material achieves precipitation hardening performance through the addition of niobium, titanium, and aluminum. COCESS Alloys can provide Alloy 718 in the solution-treated or precipitation-hardened condition. The features of this material include:

● Good workability in the solution-annealed condition

● Good mechanical properties and higher fatigue strength in the hardened condition

● Good creep and rupture strength at 700°C

● Good oxidation resistance at 1000°C

● Excellent mechanical properties at low temperatures

Corrosion Resistance

Due to the high content of chromium and molybdenum, Alloy 718 has good resistance to general corrosion and localized corrosion (such as pitting) in many media. Due to the high nickel content, Alloy 718 also has good resistance to stress corrosion cracking.

Applications

Due to its high-temperature strength at 700°C, excellent oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance, as well as good workability, Alloy 718 is widely used in many applications with severe working conditions. Its initial development was for use in aircraft engines for static and rotating components, such as casings, fasteners, and disks. These components require high creep and fatigue resistance, especially for engine rotating parts.

Due to its excellent performance, good workability, and cost-effectiveness, the material is also widely used for stationary and rotating components in industrial gas turbines, rocket engines and spacecraft, automotive turbochargers, high-strength bolts, springs, and fasteners, as well as heat-resistant tools for forging, extrusion, and shearing.
