Nimonic 263 is a γ′-precipitation hardened Ni–Cr–Co–Mo superalloy​ (nominal Ni–20Cr–20Co–6Mo–0.4Ti–≤0.15Al) qualified to BS HR 10 (Sheet/Strip)​ and cross-referenced to AMS 5872. It is the industry-preferred alloy for 650–850°C creep-resistant welded fabrications​ — aircraft engine combustor liners, transition ducts, augmentor casings — because it can be welded in the soft solution-annealed condition and then precipitation-aged in one step without strain-age cracking (SAC), unlike higher Al+Ti alloys such as René 41 or Nimonic 90.

3. Material Condition & Melting Practice

  • Melting Route:​ Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM) + Electro-Slag Remelting (ESR) — guarantees low S/P (S ≤ 0.008 % typical), tight Ti (0.30–0.60 %) and Mo (5.6–6.1 %) control, homogeneous γ′ precipitate potential.

  • Delivery Condition:​ Solution annealed (1120–1150°C, soak per section → water quench or high-velocity air blast for thin gauge).

    Nimonic 263 is not usable at full strength until aged​ (800°C × 8 h / AC or 750–760°C × 16 h). As-delivered condition is soft (Rm ≈ 750–850 MPa) for forming / welding.

  • Grain Size (Typical):​ ASTM 5–7 (sheet), ASTM 3–6 (forging stock)
