GH738 Density, Melting Point & Mechanical Properties Data Sheet

10:35:35 05/14/2026

GH738 (also known as Waspaloy, UNS N07001) is a precipitation-hardening nickel-chromium-cobalt-molybdenum superalloy. It is primarily strengthened by gamma prime [γ′-Ni₃(Al, Ti)] precipitates, offering an excellent combination of high tensile and creep-rupture strength up to 870°C (1600°F) and good oxidation resistance. Shanghai COCESS Special Alloys Co., Ltd supplies GH738 alloy products including bars, forgings, sheets, and rings, fully compliant with international aerospace and industrial standards, supported by detailed material data sheets for engineering validation.

Chemical Composition (Typical / Specification Range %)

The high cobalt and balanced aluminum/titanium ratios are critical for maintaining strength at elevated temperatures.

  • Nickel (Ni): Balance (approx. 58-60%)

  • Chromium (Cr): 18.0 – 21.0

  • Cobalt (Co): 12.0 – 15.0

  • Molybdenum (Mo): 3.5 – 5.0

  • Titanium (Ti): 2.75 – 3.25

  • Aluminum (Al): 1.2 – 1.6

  • Iron (Fe): ≤ 2.0

  • Carbon (C): 0.03 – 0.10

  • Boron (B): 0.003 – 0.010

  • Zirconium (Zr): * 0.02 – 0.08

  • Others (Mn, Si, S, P, Cu): Max 0.10 - 0.15

Physical Properties

  • Density: 8.22 g/cm³ (0.297 lb/in³)

  • Melting Range: 1330 – 1360 °C (2425 – 2480 °F)

  • Magnetic Properties: Non-magnetic

  • Thermal Conductivity: 16.8 W/(m·K) at 360°C, increasing to 28.0 W/(m·K) at 985°C.

  • Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE): 12.47 × 10⁻⁶/°C (20-100°C); 15.05 × 10⁻⁶/°C (20-700°C).

Mechanical Properties (Room Temperature - Solution Treated & Aged)

In the fully heat-treated condition (typically solution treated around 1080°C followed by double aging), GH738 exhibits high strength and hardness:

  • Tensile Strength (Rm): ≥ 1200 MPa (174,000 psi)

  • Yield Strength (Rp0.2): ≥ 800 MPa (116,000 psi)

  • Elongation (A): ≥ 15%

  • Reduction of Area (Z): ≥ 18%

  • Hardness: HRC 30 – 38 (Brinell approx. 320 – 360 HB)

High-Temperature Performance Data

The alloy retains significant load-bearing capacity at operational temperatures typical for turbine components:

  • Tensile Strength at 650°C: ≥ 900 MPa

  • Tensile Strength at 815°C: ≥ 608 MPa (typical spec minimum often cited as 605-610 MPa)

  • Stress Rupture (815°C / 328 MPa): Minimum life often specified as ≥ 23 hours (typical performance can exceed 30-50 hours depending on processing).

  • Oxidation Rate: In air at 900°C for 100h, oxidation rate is approx. 0.083 g/(m²·h); at 1000°C, approx. 0.226 g/(m²·h).
