Inconel 601, also known as Alloy 601, with the UNS designation N06601 and W.Nr. 2.4851, is a nickel-chromium-iron alloy known for its resistance to high-temperature oxidation and good mechanical properties at elevated temperatures. This alloy is specifically designed to resist high-temperature corrosion and remains highly resistant to oxidation through 2200°F. It is often used in applications that involve exposure to extreme heat, such as in the petrochemical, aerospace, and thermal processing industries. Inconel 601 is commonly employed in applications such as radiant tubes, muffles, retorts, strand annealing tubes, and various industrial furnace components.
Inconel Alloy 601 is specifically recommended for service above 550 °C (1,022 °F) because of its higher creep-rupture properties resulting from its controlled carbon content and coarse grain size.
